you know, it depends on what kind of love you are speaking of that determines the answer.
if you go into greek they have many words for love, because there are many different types of love.
there is family love, like for your mother, father, sister, brother, child so on and so forth.
there is friend love, like for your best friend, and other persons of that nature.
then there is spouse love/being in love, this is probably the one you meant, despite what people think this type of love is not always hot sweaty and overwhelming, this one is also soothing and comforting.
I know a few people who have been in and out of "love" more times than i care to count, and then i know people who have been in love with each other and only seen each other for 50 plus years. So, these are my thoughts based on what i gave gathered in speaking with people, and my own life on this earth.
being in love with someone, is like being with your best friend in the whole world, only better. It's seeing each others faults and flaws in the most real, naked, and truthful way you can ever imagen, and wanting to be with each other anyway. it's knowing that yeah, you might be just fine with out each other, but value the part in your life they play, and what positive things in your life they inhance. and yeah, lifes hard, get a helmet, but some of lifes blows aren't so bad when you have someone else in you life who chooses to gaurd your back and help you take on some of lifes brutality, as you do for them. And some how, in some unexplainable way, you balance each other.
love is amazing, it's patient, kind, trusting, respectful, and truthful, actually brutality honest, even if it's painfull, but will help you heal afterward because it wants what is best for you.
but love is hard, it's the hardest thing you will ever do, and it's takes work or it will die, because it is still a flame after all. And if the love is mature, no matter how hard it get you still want to be with that person.
this for me helps some it up:
"love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but it rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perserveres. Love never Fails."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 N.I.V.
(yes, to all you know-it-all's that would be the bible, if you have a problem with it, get over it, it's a truthful and helpful statement.)
i know i fall short of this everyday, but the one i love is worth it, and worth trying to attain this goal everyday.
Oh yeah, love is also alot of fun, and pleasurable, and the person you're with is possibly the most amazing, intense, and intimate friend you will ever have, and they are also your lover. What could be better than that?
(this started as a response to a forum, but i had a lot more in my head about it then i thought)
