I have a tendancy to dismiss Pop Music as shallow and poorly written, and I'm not ashamed of it. Don't get me wrong, I understand that Pop's existance serves only to offer cheap templates for specific moods, but really, why must it all suck? Yet lately I've found myself drawn to specific "Pop" Artists, almost as if they've beaten the paradigm. This made me wonder: is it possible that anything without even the basic necessity of a bass guitar or an angry undertone has value? It seems that certain artists (LIGHTS, Lilly Allen, and Micheal Jackson among others) have managed to acheive true inteligence and poetry in their lyrics and a matching complexity of melody. I am, however, unwilling to lump these singers in with others of the "same" genre. And so, I suggest the advent of Smart Pop. It's not a complicated idea, really. Pop Artists who never sing about love when they've never felt it, never spend entire songs boasting about money or looks, and waste our time by regurgitating similes for dancing over and over ought to catagorized as Smart Pop. This way, no violations of personal standards or general confusion need occur. Also, Smart Pop sounds nice in your mouth. No really, say it out loud. Smart Pop. Smaaaaart Pop. SMART POP! Nice, eh?

I would just like to point out that you just said for shame in all caps. Seriously, what did you do? Try and think of something mean to say on your own, but it was too much work for your brain so it went into a coma and one of your twelve year old friends had to finish your comment for you?

LIGHTS uses a clear and consistent lense in order to share a gentler view of the world that is both poetic and compelling. So yes, I do like her. And really, how exactly would you know if I know better or not?

Personal taste is an imposition by outside imaginations.
