Meeting People Over the Internet...

I tried it...twice? I believe it was twice.  One of the guys is my best friend the other was someone i was dating who is a total failure on the grounds that he doesn't understand when to kiss and not to kiss after only being on two dates.  I'm hesitant about it since you never know if that person's a fake, creep, loser, bum, idiot, etc.  Basically the total opposite of what you thought of him to be by what he has told you.  Personally I don't plan on ever doing it again.  Its just a huge fail to me.  As far as meeting the person who eventually became my best friend?  Yea, we met but it was so randomly.  It wasn't planned.  I saw him walk past me and I called out to him and thus began our physical friendship after texting each other for over 4 months with nothing else.  I think I've been lucky to not have met up with someone that is...an older male with greying hair looking for a good time after being told something totally different.

 

I'm not an idiot.  I do talk to these people beforehand but I realize thats not enough.  It never is to meet up with someone you met over the internet.  Its something you truly have to trust your instincts and guts on.  I would rather just avoid the whole thing for now on.

I've done it once and actually dated the girl for awhile. Then I found out that she was married from a friend, so I broke it off cause she had a kid with the guy and I didn't wanna get in between that. Very weird expierence for me cause I was "the other guy"

I've met a handful of people over the internet. Never for any "creepy" reason (although there are guys like that). A couple of people on bolt could vouch for me; but you're right- if you're going to meet someone from the internet, you have to trust your instincts (and the other person!). It helps to have known the person online for a while too. One of the people I met (from bolt), I've talked to her for about a few years before the opportunity ever came up.

I don't get why some guys try the whole "i'll tell you one thing about me and i'll be completely different in person" approach. It doesn't work and it's obvious. Guys: If you tell a girl you're 21 (making up a number) and you're really 40.... and she sees you... What do you think is gonna happen!?
