I don't know if you're speaking in the mindset of a gay marriage advocate or if you're truly expressing your opinion Kevin. I do agree, however, the argument made by Lyn still has the same level of reason. Thus, it is still a valid argument--perfectly capable of debating what you've said. I think this may lead to the foundations of what we believe. Lyn, why do you believe in your religion? Conversely, Kevin, why do you not follow religion?

Also Lyn, how much do you think the values instilled when you are a child solder onto your selfhood?

I'd like to see what you believe the answer is to that question Kevin.

Of course not!
The values I received as a child and still have today simply say that marriage is a God ordained ceremony between a man and a woman. It is a confounding and tenacious issue. I have no problem with two boys or two girls living together as a couple. However, marriage has been -since written history has occurred- between a man and a woman.

Would you mind explaining how it's a mockery. Surely you don't see homosexuals as lesser beings?

Sanctity. A word from a bygone era when the world was guided by Holy men of old... Almighty God, etc etc.

If this statement raises your hackles; then there can be no meaningful discussion of this topic or any other topic... morals and values have to be rooted somewhere. A child is taught her values by the milieu in which she is raised or in which she gets older, depending on the people providing her with the necessities to sustain life. She matures and embraces her own values, yes; but no one can say with any validity that one's childhood does not shape their values. Sooner or later we claim the morals from our parents or make our own system of "right and wrong".

Back to sanctity. Simple definition is that it means "to set apart". The world has recognized marriage as sanctified (set apart) from all other; when a man and woman choose to marry, they are following the laws and moral and values of our ancestors who believed in the God of the Bible and instilled those values in our family heritage.

And so, I personally believe that marriage is when a man and woman "gather before God" and profess their love and loyalty and faithfulness to each other. It is really not my worry what two men or two women do with their unions, but to call it marriage makes a mockery of our value system that has for all intents and purposes been around since forever.

I agree. Does anyone disagree? I'm curious as to what your logic is.

Yes, it should be allowed. Everyone should be treated equally.

It's hard to say - the people with whom I associate myself mostly appear to be pro-gay marriage as well. However, it's based on just that: I'm only really aware of the positions from those I seek ... though, I'd venture to say that in my city, it's more liberally-oriented ... then again, lol, I think we're the minority in the state ...
