Members of Bolt3, we have some sad news – Bolt3 is coming to an end. After supporting this community since 2009 we are now nearly 5 years down the road. Despite having good intentions, our limited resources have stymied all efforts to revive the original spirit of Bolt.com and we are now at an end.

In these last 5 years we’ve gone through a lot with Bolt3, including two separate moderator civil wars (where we’ve had to come in to fix the mass deletions of our moderator communities because one bad egg lost his head and decided to trash the site). On the original Bolt platform this also happened frequently, so we’re sure no one is surprised. Equally unsurprising, and unfortunate, each time we tried to find a way to pay for Bolt3, for instance, by putting up advertising banners, our moderators would quietly delete those ads and cut off much needed revenue. This reality thwarted our efforts to fund Bolt’s operations or even hire someone to permanently see to its care.

Perhaps you can join us in a solemn laugh, that’s Bolt for you!

Sadly, the site has degraded toward a few die-hard community fans and a host of roaming trolls. This leaves us with some hard truths: Bolt costs money to operate, generates no revenue to pay bills, and lacks the administrators it needs to function as a viable community. Sadly, we’re out of options.

At this time I want to provide notice that the Bolt3 domain name will be repurposed within the week. That said, for approximately 30 days you will still be able to access the community at: http://boltagain.ning.com/. After 30 days we will also stop paying Ning’s monthly hosting fee and this will effectively kill Bolt3 as we’ve come to know it.

Please, Please, Please, tell your friends to download the videos and pictures that are important to them, as they will soon be gone. After they go, I do not believe they can be brought back. Also get in touch with those in your community and find new ways to maintain your connections.

It is painful to have to bring the Bolt history finally to an end. Who knows, perhaps it will bounce back somewhere else (it has many times before). We wanted to thank all the moderators and community leaders who have stepped up in the last five years to valiantly attempt to moderate and maintain Bolt3. They took on mountains of headaches (let us tell you), and they are responsible for having kept this place alive for so long. Please join us in saying, Thank You!
