Horse Racing - America?

I am a pretty huge horse racing fan in Australia we have some pretty amazing races. I'm curious to find out what the American Horse Racing is like, if its huge like it seems to be in Australia. I've tried to find some online gambling sites to have a look at cards and meetings but cant really seem to find them, maybe i'm not looking hard enough but is HOrse Racing in america a huge deal? also if anybody knows a website can you share the link.
