2 Corinthians 10:3-5 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
The question is: ARE THERE ABSOLUTE TRUTHS THAT APPLY TO ALL PEOPLE, AT ALL TIMES, REGARDLESS OF THEIR FAITH, OR LACK OF IT?
What is Truth: Two (2) Schools of Thought:
Absolute Truth: Truths that apply to all people, at all times, regardless of their faith - or lack of faith.
Relative Truth: Most people believe in Relativism : the concept of relative truth: Everything is right sometime and nothing right every time.
The real question is, So What? What difference does it make if our culture rejects absolute truth?
1. RELATIVISM ENCOURAGES IMMORALITY
Romans 13:13-14 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the LORD Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
2. RELATIVISM DISCOURAGES EVANGELISM
Acts 5:28-29;Acts 5:42 28 "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood." 29 Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!
42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
RELATIVISM PROMOTES PERSECUTION
John 14:6 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Romans 1:26-27 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
