You don't have to understand the intricacies of the Trinity to have eternal life. You do, however, have to have a personal relationship with God - to really know Him.
When you become a Christ-follower, you accept the Bible's teaching that God saves, loves, and makes Himself known to humanity. Learning about the Trinity only increases your understanding of who God is and how He chooses to work.
God the Father chose to save us from sin. Jesus, the Son of God, chose to give His life because He loves us. God the Holy Spirit continues to work in our lives to show us who God is. God knows all there is to know about you. He desires that you grow in knowledge of Him, not just knowledge about Him.
