Jay's Dream Part 2- The Beginning of A New Life

Part 2

The Beginning Of A New Life!

Jay and rose were stood standing in the centre of the stage as they faced big crowds of people standing around, applauding for all the talent they’ve discovered from their friends and family on stage. Then all the young people came out from hiding and each person bowed. Every time a person bowed you could hear a bigger cheer of excitement from the audience. Alexandra came out last and she stood next to rose and took her hand softly, in a friendly way and smiled. Rose was amazed because she knew now that Alexandra changed, Alexandra knew now that it was better this way. Alexandra’s group of friends were happy to know the transformation that came over Alexandra when the group finally confronted her through great honesty. Jay was so cheerful now, he couldn’t keep a straight face any longer. He looked down through the crowds and seen his mother Michelle crying with great joy, she roared out ‘that’s my son’, Jay laughed out loud in embarrassment, he felt it was great to see his mother’s reaction. Michelle was sitting in the front row, next to Rose’s mother Kimberly. Jay and Rose’s family were then asked to be brought backstage with the rest of the young people’s parents, and of course they did.  The stage curtains then slowly closed as the audience left their seats to return to their homes or their young children whom took part in the creative show. All the performers and the people who took part in the show left the stage and went backstage too. Alexandra was left feeling disappointed because none of her family showed up at the theatre to watch the show, that is the reason why she finally changed her ways. Alexandra didn’t have a supportive family, her parents were busy business people and never had time for their daughter.  Poor Alexandra grew up to became a careless teenager, but truly it wasn’t her fault, her family never understood her, this is the reason why she reflects isolation on new people or friends, because her parents isolated her as a child.  So, when the show finished successfully with Jay and Rose’s beautiful ending, Alexandra felt the performance changed her view on life, she became a more friendly person, she started to respect others. Rose felt sort of awkward because at first Alexandra was disrespectful to all the community, and now it  seemed like a complete different person. Rose slowly let go of Alexandra’s hand, she tried to let go in the kindest way as she could, Jay was beside Rose, he wondered if Alexandra was being honest by her kind actions, but it made him become more aware, so he asked ‘Alexandra, is everything okay? I thought you disliked us.’  Rose nodded at Jay and agreed, she wondered the same thing. Alexandra lowered her head, she didn’t know how to explain or express her feelings. ‘I’m sorry, I was selfish and cruel, please forgive me. When I seen you both performing tonight I felt awful because I was so wrong to judge you at first, you both are amazing stage performers. I grew up on the stage you see. My family got me into drama classes ever since I was a kid and I’ve always tried to impress my parents but they never showed up at my school plays when I was little, they didn’t pay any  interest in the things I wanted to do.’ Jay and Rose listened to Alexandra in everything she said. The three of them were still standing behind the curtain on the stage while the other groups of people got changed into their casual clothing. ‘We forgive you’, said Rose. ‘Yes we understand what you’re saying’, said Jay. ‘But why did you dislike us in the beginning, were you jealous?’ Alexandra sighed and then admitted that she was jealous of their born talent. Jay smiled, he felt as if he had the whole situation sorted out. ‘So your saying that you felt envy of us because we got more recognised by Marian and the audience.’ ‘Not exactly’, said Alexandra. ‘It was more because I trained all through my childhood to become this stage performer, but  with you both, it looks as if ye have the talent from heart, it seems as if your talents come natural to you.’ Rose felt concerned for Alexandra, she gave a sad face, ‘why don’t you talk to your parents and tell them about your true ambitions. Also, what would you like to do for a living?’ Alexandra then smiled ‘I’d like to become an athlete but my family dislike sports because they feel it’s too distracting for me.’ ‘Well it’s your life’, said Jay. ‘You can make your own choices and decisions, you should be proud of yourself and begin a career in athletics.’ ‘I agree’, said Rose. ‘I don’t understand why your family doesn’t pay any attention to you or appreciate your own goals and values. I think you should do what your heart feels is right, follow your  own dreams  and if it’s a case that things don’t work out then  you could always seek new interests anyways’, said Rose. Jay grinned, ‘Exactly.’  Alexandra was amazed by Rose and Jay’s support, she never expected such a friendly reaction, especially when she did nothing but prejudice gossips behind their backs, she felt really ashamed of herself.  She knew that she shouldn’t of said those awful things to her friends about them, but now she seen Jay and Rose’s true side and they seen Alexandra’s change in an improvement too. ‘Thank you, Rose and Jay, your both right, I should follow my dreams and I will. I’m going to talk with my parents when I return home.’ ‘It will do the world of good for you’, said Rose. ‘Thanks again, you’ve both given me great courage and support to believe in myself. I actually think your both wonderful people and I believe you’re going to be successful in anything and everything you do.’  Jay and Rose felt delighted that Alexandra had said that, they both gave her a hug and everyone then went backstage to get changed and to see their families again. When Michelle seen Jay heading backstage towards her, she rushed over to him quickly, giving him a desperate hug. She was so proud of him, she had tears rolling down her face from happiness. Jay was just satisfied that his mother respected his talent and goal as a creative, performing person. Alexandra went over to her group of friends and talked the way she normally would with them, but when she seen Jay’s mother hugging him with praise, she then soon realized what they’ve told her about believing and being herself, so she then changed her tone of voice and spoke more gentle and honest. She explained to her friends in why she was so pushy and judgmental, and gladly they forgave Alexandra for her mistaken actions in the past. Rose on the other hand was very aware of what was going on around the room and in her surroundings.  She seen Jay feeling pleased over his mother’s proudness and Alexandra speaking more truthfully, she looked back at the stage and seen the Angel of light waving and smiling at her, this made Rose feel like crying over a sight of shining beauty, but she didn’t dare show anyone else her hidden emotion because she knew that they would either find her insane or confusing, so she cried to herself as she looked in the stage direction. When Rose blinked for a moment and dried away her tears, the Angel of light had gone, disappeared. This made Rose feel curious and surprised towards why it had gone so quickly. Rose didn’t care what people thought anymore, so she walked over to the centre stage and peeked out through the closed curtain but there was nothing there, so she sighed and gave up on searching for this shimmering  light. The Angel of light was in the built up figure of a human being, but the body was surrounded by an aura of gold light. The light beamed out like the bright sun, it shimmered like the view of shore when beneath under water, Rose found it beautiful no matter what people thought. Rose didn’t know whether the Angel of light appeared realistically or spiritually only to her mind, but she thought it was a beautiful, faithful way to see life, the visualizing being of light reassured her anyways.  Rose smiled because she believed her mind was wonderful. In her mind she seen miracles whenever she believed. Whenever Rose  followed her journey or path at heart, she felt that she could never fail because she thought people could either be negative or to understand her point of views, it was a matter of finding life purpose with the help of a deepened spirituality or to follow the same road in what misunderstanding people wanted her to do. Rose believed that she already knew her life purpose deep down at heart, she felt her spirit and mind showed her the way in everything she faced and done, through all the feared and good. Jay then stopped hugging his mother and thanked her for showing up at the show that night, he looked around the room and wondered where Rose was. When he seen her standing on the stage, smiling and looking out from the curtain, he walked over to her immediately. ‘Rose, is everything okay?’, Jay asked.  Rose said nothing for a moment as she continued smiling and looking out from the stage, but then she hesitated and said ‘ Yes, I’m alright now. I’m just so happy and overwhelmed with how great our show went.’ Jay nodded and believed what she said. ‘Oh yes, the show was interesting, and you were the star of the night.’ Jay laughed and turned and faced the backstage and seen Rose’s mother Kimberly walking through the backstage entrance. ‘Look Rose, it’s your mother Kimberly, let’s go and greet her.’ Rose slowly looked towards the backstage entrance and it seemed as if she wasn’t interested. They both walked towards Kimberly and Rose was still wondering where the Angel of light had gone.  Jay was the first to greet Kimberly with a quick friendly handshake ‘Hello, you’re welcome to our little community’, he said. Rose then gave her mother a hug and welcomed her too. Jay then introduced his mother Michelle with Rose’s parent Kimberly. Michelle and Kimberly got into a casual conversation about how proud they were as parents, and also they discussed about every day, daily routines, to do with shopping, clothes, washing and about Kimberly’s career as a nurse in the local hospital. Jay and Rose sighed over how boring their parent’s conversation was, they then were called to the dressing room by Marian, who was the most proud of all. When they  entered the dressing rooms, all the groups were standing in lines, each person cheered for them. Rose and Jay looked at each other and laughed, everyone else found Rose and Jay’s skills and talent as performers inspirational and fun. Alexandra was the first to give them a hug of thanks, she was now a good friend to both Jay and Rose. ‘Thank you everyone’, they both said. ‘We don’t deserve this praise’, said Jay. ‘You are all talented and amazing in your own ways.’ Rose grinned and she then nodded to all the groups of performers ‘Exactly’, she said. The groups of people then circled around Jay and Rose  in the centre  of the room  and shouted  ‘Jay and Rose are now our heroes’, said they. Jay was gobsmacked, he looked at Rose pure surprisingly who was enjoying the whole pride. Marian was so pleased and fulfilled from how successful her theatre show went, it gave the community and society a cheerfulness for their young people to succeed in life. Marian then left the dressing room so the young people could get changed into their clothes and out of their costumes and soon leave for home. Marian was about to head for the staircase when she was approached by two men in black suits, they both asked her politely ‘Sorry Miss, would you know where we can find Marian Walsh, the director of this theatre by any chance?’ Marian rolled her eyes for a moment as she tried to keep patient, ‘This is she, I am Marian, can I help you gentlemen.’ The both  men had a small notebook in the palm of their hands, they recorded and wrote everything Marian had said, it gave her the impression that they were detectives undercover on an important case. ‘Can we talk more privately’, said one of the men. Marian thought the men were inspectors now, but she  then led the men up through the staircase towards her small office. When they came by the balcony, one of the men recognised the magical doorway, where it led to all the manifesting magic where it took place in the room. ‘What’s in that room’,  one of the men asked as he pointed towards the magical doorway. Marian tried not to give away her hidden secret of the room, she answered calmly without seeming too obvious.  ‘Oh.. Eh, that’s where we keep all the packages and decorations for the festive holidays’, said Marian. The men were too curious now, they wanted to have a closer look. They quickly went towards the doorway as Marian tried to persuade them in going the other direction. The men barged through the door as if  they were searching for lost prisoners. When they looked inside it was completely dark. They turned on the light switch as Marian was frightened  towards what they were about to see. Greatly to her, they seen nothing but a stuffy room, filled with packages and office computers. It showed Marian that these men were indeed ‘Stuffy’, they didn’t have an open mind or an imagination to see miracles or magical things. Marian laughed in satisfaction,      ‘I told you. Now will you please follow me to my office.’  The men were both disappointed in themselves, they expected to find something else, but of course nothing of miracles. Marian entered her office as she sat in her office chair as the men took a seat and explained what organisation or company they worked for. They actually were members of the performing arts academy in London, England. They travelled from the United Kingdom to Ireland and various of other countries globally in search for young people with great potential or talent in any creative form. Marian realized  now that these men were talent scouts, people who search for young artists in inspiring the public people to a greater world of society in the way we see or hope for it to be in the future years. ‘We creative teachers tour around cities in communities to find young adults with great skill or ability of creativeness. We hope to help improve our talented people to a greater level of their inner success. When we find talent, we give those who want an opportunity to come to London with us in giving them full security in the academy grounds with highly skilled  professors who train those who are more practical or academic, and of course creative within their own interest and values. The overall progression for the candidates lasts two years and if likable then we search for a place in giving them a career  in the profession their more determined and trained to. None of our students or colleagues failed  in finding a workplace in the world. Many became professional singers or actors, writers, directors, athletes and even movie stars.’ Marian was extremely engaged by this deep discussion, she wondered if the men had found potential or talent in her community, but she knew that she had many young people that had unknown  talent from the public. ‘May I ask gentlemen, have you found talent in my theatre?’ ‘Yes we’ve seen incredible talent here. We were especially interested in how creative tonight’s show was. The last performance was the most stunning and breath-taking performance we had ever seen for a stage show in a local theatre.’ Marian knew now that these men specifically meant Rose and Jay, who were the last performers of the night. Marian smiled ‘Yes, those last performers are actually best friends, they have a powerful connection together. They do their performances together which provides a powerful understanding from the friendship they shine with each other, their names are Rose and Jason, but Jason prefers to be called Jay. Jason sees ‘Jay’ as a creative, performing name from his expressive character or personality. Rose and Jay are both remarkable people, they share their interests and ideas with all the groups in our theatre community, they influence everyone on good terms and know how to impress or shock an audience, their artists if I may say so myself.’ ‘We both agree with you on that one Marian, it seemed when they performed it showed their feeling or life story, which we think is expressing themselves creatively. Would it be suitable if we could speak with both Jason and Rose in any time before they leave the theatre?’  ‘Well I better speak with both Jay and Rose to see how they feel about your opportunity first. The men agreed and Marian searched for Jay and Rose at the dressing rooms on the lower floor of the building. Everyone was getting dressed when Marian knocked on the door, when the groups heard the knock they jumped in a fright, it made Jay laugh in the other room when he heard them screaming.  The women in the girls room asked who it was and Marian answered ‘It’s me, Is it safe to come in?’ Everyone agreed, so Marian went inside. Jay was nearly fully dressed in the other dressing room and Rose was fully prepared to leave when Marian entered the room. When Jay finished getting into his casual clothes, he wore a black sweater and denim jeans with his father’s shoes, he then was called into the girl’s dressing room too. When he opened the door he seen that everyone was sitting patiently for him. When Rose and Jay realized that it was for  them that Marian was waiting for, she then said ‘there is these people in  my office that want to speak with you both.’ Jay turned and looked at Rose as the other groups of people in the room said ‘what people?’ Marian then explained that they were people in search for talent, and Marian gave a close look to Rose and Jay, which they knew what she meant by talent, it surely meant them.  Jay became curious, he wanted to know more, he asked Marian lots of questions about these talent scouts, it made him feel nervous because he didn’t know what to say to them. Rose was confident enough for this, she curled her hair back behind her ears and smiled towards Jay. Jay then walked over to Rose and she said ‘I believe we are ready for this, we can speak our minds for what we love doing.’ Jay then looked hopeless   ‘what do I do or say to them’, he asked Rose. Rose just thought for a moment and then said ‘I believe you should just be yourself and show them who you really are and what your made of as a person.’ Rose then lit up a big smile and said ‘everything will go fine’, Marian nodded and agreed entirely.  Jay and Rose then left the room as the men were standing there waiting for them, surprising as it was for Jay and Rose, the men were actually very interested and happy to see them. Straight away, Rose introduced herself ‘Hello’, she said happily as she gave them a handshake, while Jay was feeling rather shy. ‘Good afternoon’, said the men. The both men then said ‘We found both of your performances quite good and we believe that your talents are very interested for the public or a crowd to see.’ ‘Thank you’, said Jay and Rose at once. The men then asked Jay and Rose about their life backgrounds and interests or hobbies. Rose explained herself very deeply that the men found very professional, she spoke about her lifestyle and interest in anything and everything, the men wrote everything down quickly in their small notebook, to Jay it seemed as if they were analysing everything they had done and wrote about what they had said, as if the men were following an important task.  Jay then explained his life experience in how he found creativity his goal to the theatre, he expressed his passion for entertaining others while he would perform or act out his favourite movie scenes from what inspired him in his own life situations or circumstances. He admitted that Rose as his performing partner helped him gain more confidence and belief in himself.  The men understood that completely as they took that into account. He told the men that he seen life differences and new experiences as a true adventure as he always hoped to seek new things from the emotions he carried. He also told the men that he seen life in the theatre as his strength of courage towards people socially, as he always feared those in his home neighbourhood.  All these opportunities for Jay was about to help him gain inner power and develop a sense of potential so that he could become fearless and feel success from him following the path his heart and soul always desired and was destined to belong with.  The men or the talent scouts seen Jay as a born star, they found him inspirational because they believed his talent  would influence or inspire those in the public of today’s society to become greater people, in friendly terms. The men then said ‘We believe that you both would become very trained professionals with your gifted talents, so we grant you both this letter to sign if you would like to participate in the two year creative arts academy in London. The artistic institute is very much practical based in others like yourselves who love music and drama. We’d be very pleased if you could both take this advantage because it would give you a choice in finding other creative colleagues who’d have the very much same interests as your own. Ultimately, the arts academy will definitely help you seek new friends because as far as we can tell it’s a very open and welcoming society for those who want to pursue a career in the movie or music industry. From passed colleagues  we’ve  heard from their parents that it changed their young people’s lives as it freed them from all the bad influences that surrounded them. Even those who were greatly talented, some were highly addicted to illegal substances, such as drugs and alcohol, and as they found their talent more ‘addictive’, we’ve helped them seek freedom and counselling in safer environments of life. And in most cases we’ve succeeded in helping these individuals realize better, healthy lives for themselves.’ Rose and Jay looked at each other in amazement, Jay wanted to talk things through privately with Rose, but she insisted on doing this without doubt. She knew it was the perfect advantage for herself and Jay. Jay began to worry ‘But Sir, am I good,  trained or skilled  enough for such an achieving place?’ The men began to look confused and frustrated, it was obvious to them that Jay was perfect for such a fate. ‘Of course your capable and ready for this, otherwise we wouldn’t of offered, but it’s of course your choice whether you want to do this or not, but I highly recommend you too.’ Jay smiled and finally agreed to begin a new journey in London’s art academy, so he signed the papers and letters and agreed to participate in the two years programme. Jay took the papers from the men, he wanted to show his mother the invitation, Rose done the same. The men told them that it was fine and that there was going to be a vehicle to pick them up around the morning after they said their goodbye’s to their families. Rose and Jay then thanked the men for all their advising support, now Jay and Rose had to return to their parents to explain the awarding news. This is when Jay realized that his life was about to change, it indeed was about to become a new beginning of a new life for him, and for his friend Rose!

As soon as Jay and Rose had left the office of Marian’s, they then decided that they wouldn’t tell their families until they got home. When Jay and Rose reached the backstage, they had seen that both their mother’s Michelle and Kimberly were still in their conversation about life in general. Rose rolled her eyes as she urged her mother to leave with her at that moment, so she did.  ‘I think we should head home’, said Jay to Michelle. ‘I have important news to tell you. It’s about my future’, he said. Michelle then left with Jay immediately. Michelle tried getting the information or news out of Jay’s mouth as they walked through the streets of their home neighbourhood, but Jay wasn’t going to until he got settled inside so he could break the news more gladly. When Jay and Michelle arrived at the house, Jay put his coat in the cloakroom as he then sat his mother down on the sofa. ‘Is everything alright Jay? I hope you don’t have any bad news to share, but whatever it is I would be glad to listen, if it’s the case!’ Jay nodded disagreeably with delight. ‘No mom, it’s nothing bad or devastating as I’m making all this moment out to be. It’s just I’ve something important to tell you, it could easily change my life.’ You couldn’t tell if Michelle was overwhelmed in happiness or disappointed for some strange reason, but  by her shocked facial expression it was obvious to Jay that she badly wanted to know more, in deeper detail as it showed upon her interested face. ‘Remember how Rose and I left the stage with Marian in such a hurry in such short notice earlier at the theatre after the show finished? Well,  we were called while in the dressing rooms. Marian had told us that there was these men in her office, waiting for us.’ ‘What men’, Michelle interrupted, ‘and what were they waiting for?’ ‘Mom will you please calm down, I’m trying to tell you but you keep interrupting. These men were actually trained professionals. What’s more surprising is that they were in Ireland for a reason, they had come all this way from London England. The men were in search for talent. They watched our creative show tonight and clearly found Rose and I outstanding to their profession and search with the creative arts academy that they teach with all the rest of the young people that they would find, from other places around the world, globally.’ Michelle didn’t have words in her mind for speech, she was clearly surprised, in a very good way to Jay’s explanation. For a moment Michelle said nothing as she cleared her throat so that she could find words to reply to the conversation. ‘What did the men say’, she finally said. Jay felt confident as he watched his mother’s proudness; from Jay succeeding in the audition to unleashing an incredible show for the small town, and now for Jay’s opportunity in getting professional support by other’s creative like him, all this was a lot to take in for a single parent like Michelle. Jay then remembered about the leaflets and letters that they were given and congratulated from the respectful men. Jay then rushed to the cloakroom in search for his leaflet and the letter that was tucked away in his coat pocket. When he found it shortly, he then returned to the living room to show his mother what the letter said. In the letter it gave a congratulate to the young person’s achievement in whatever art the person was more skilled towards. Then it showed a notice of what clothing and equipment if needed for the candidate’s category of talent. Michelle stood standing for a moment in the quiet room without saying a word while she was reading the letter carefully, it sort of worried Jay. ‘Mom, are you alright?’ ‘This is your dream Jay… You’ll be leaving me, to start a new life on your own.’ Jay smiled, ‘I’ll be perfectly fine, honest. The men specifically mentioned protection and security in the academy grounds, and besides I want to try living independently, you’ve already given me all the support that I’ve needed since I’ve finished college, two weeks ago.’ ‘I agree with you entirely, it’s just mother’s like myself do worry, even if you’re not a youngster anymore. I still do think of you as my baby boy.’ ‘Okay Mom, I understand but you must let me do this on my own.. I’ve been waiting for something like this, forever. I’ve waited for so long, so long that it’s time to prove myself righteously this time.’ Michelle thought it was quite strange and yet marvellous in how her grown up son succeeds so greatly in his dreams, to her it was like her son was made to achieve and made for the world to know that everyone can achieve their dreams.  Jay then smiled and gave Michelle a hug and thanked her for understanding so approvingly as he then went into his bedroom to pack a suitcase of all his belongings.  The first thing he brought with him was a diary, family photographs and his father’s shoes. Jay was so proud of his father’s shoes that he couldn’t dare or possibly leave them behind, he wore them everywhere he went, Jay called them his ‘dancing shoes’. Jay sat on his bedside as he looked out his bedroom window and seen the rainy weather fall at his window pane, he felt as if the rain crept through him over the worry and wonder of his lost father. While  Jay  was finishing with the packing of his suitcase, his mother Michelle knocked on the bedroom door and came inside, she was tearfully crying. ‘What’s the matter’, Jay asked as he continued packing. ‘There’s something I haven’t told you’, she said. Jay had a pile of clothes in his arms and he carefully put them in the suitcase bag as he listened to his mother. ‘What has she not told me now’, Jay wondered.  Jay turned and faced his tearful mother, ‘what is it that you’ve not told me?’ he asked. Michelle went towards Jay as she put her hand on his shoulder, ‘Your father is still alive!’ she sadly admitted. Jay felt speechless, he sat down on his duvet and thought for a moment. ‘My father’s not dead after all’, he thought to himself. ‘Where is he? is he okay? is  he safe, is he in danger?’  ‘Jay please calm down. He’s perfectly fine… It’s just your father started a new life of his own. His parents came from a very wealthy background and they didn’t approve of me over my poor life circumstances. Your father loved me.. It’s just he and his family moved back to England to their hometown.. And I never heard from him since, all I know is that he joined the civil army in Britain and successfully was awarded a model for bravery.. Your dad was a hero Jay.’ Jay was left feeling amazed by all this, he couldn’t imagine his father someplace else, and yet inside his heart he felt that he didn’t need a father because Michelle helped all the way whenever Jay needed guidance or support, but he was still curious in finding out the life that his dad left behind. But for a moment Jay was more concentrated on his own start in life, he knew that he couldn’t let the past come between his brighter future that was soon ahead. For a moment Jay imagined all his past memories, from when Jay was a wild kid. As a child Jay was freely adventurous, he always spoke his mind and embraced his high spirits from the love he gave to family, nature  and animals. Jay had a fascination in nature and in the peace of mind or the excitement of music. Jay was about to critically question his mother and turn things into an argument, but instead he smiled and hugged her and said ‘Thanks for telling me.. I respect you for not telling me earlier because if you did it would have worried me more, but now that I found my goal and way in life I’m actually glad that you didn’t tell me any sooner than now.’ Michelle felt much better after that, she didn’t have to worry about her son anymore. ‘Mom, does dad know about me, does he even know that he had a son or that I exist? Michele frowned, ‘No Jay, he never knew I had a baby. I got pregnant shortly after he left. ‘Where is he?, Jay asked.  ‘I don’t know, it’s been over twenty years since I last heard from him.’ Jay felt a little upset ‘oh…’ ‘I know it’s difficult Jay, this is why I didn’t want to tell you before.’  ‘No mom it’s fine.. I’ll move forward positively, it’s just hard to believe that I have a father that doesn’t even know I exist.’ Michelle kept quiet, she couldn’t comment or say anything more, she respected her son’s feelings, dearly. So, Michelle kissed Jay’s forehead and left the room quietly without saying another word as she left him in peace. Jay stood standing in his bedroom; wondering, daydreaming and thinking of his father’s life. It made him feel happier and stronger to move forward more believably.  Jay then shook his head and snapped out of his dreamy daze  as he then  finished packing. Jay felt he couldn’t stay the night in his mother’s house any longer, so he telephoned Rose. Rose had already finishing her packing and was all organised for the big day tomorrow morning. She was in the middle of having dinner with her mother Kimberly.  When Kimberly found out about her daughter’s opportunity with the creative arts academy, she respected her daughter’s wishes. All of a sudden the telephone rang and Rose went and answered. ‘Hello?’ ‘Rose, it’s me, Jay.. I need your help.’ ‘What’s wrong Jay? Is everything alright? ‘Everything’s fine, I just need to tell you something major. I can’t stay here in my mother’s house any longer.’ ‘What’s wrong Jay, please tell me!’ ‘I can’t tell you over the phone, meet me at the mountain side cliff through the forest walkway, I’ll tell you everything there.’ ‘Okay Jay, I’ll be there in about five minutes.’ ‘Thank you Rose, bye-bye.’ Jay then hung up on the phone and took his packed suitcase and went downstairs to put on his coat. ‘Where are you going?’ Michelle asked when she seen him. ‘Oh, I’m going to stay in a hotel for the night.. It would be closer to the theatre and it would be nicer for me to take things off my mind.’ ‘Okay son.. You take care and remember to keep in touch. Write me letters when you get to London so I can know how your new life is improving  with the creative arts.’ Jay smiled, ‘I promise I will Mom, goodbye for now!’ Jay then left the house without saying another word. It was getting dark outside and Jay rushed away from the neighbourhood. It wasn’t safe for him to be out around these areas, criminals were on the loose and Jay had to keep to himself carefully and ignore the gangs of people as he walked by them. They insulted, judged and tried to humiliate Jay, but still he ignored their childishness. Soon Jay reached the forest walkway towards the cliff and seen that Rose was already there waiting. Rose didn’t see Jay from behind, she was facing forward at the landscape view and it was dark out now, there was brightened  stars in the sky that gave a great shine of light through the forest and beyond. ‘I’m here’, said Jay. Rose didn’t turn or face Jay, she was pure thoughtful about her life. ‘If you remember Jay, this is where my father died.’ Jay suddenly remembered and felt guilty for bringing Rose to this place. ‘Would you like to leave’, he asked.  ‘No, of course not. I know my daddy died here but still, it’s still a beautiful place for me to remember the good times, the times when I was a little girl, when daddy used to take care of me.’ ‘I’m so sorry Rose, also that’s a great attitude to have over your father’s death. Not many people would have your cheerful strength, and I’m so glad that I have you as my friend because it’s worth everything. This is why I wanted you here, so I can talk to you about something major in my life, because I know you’re the one I trust the most.’ Rose then turned and faced Jay, ‘What is it that you’d like to tell me’, she asked.  Jay walked closer towards the cliff and looked beneath the ground at the beach below as he began to explain what had happened earlier. ‘When I left you from the theatre earlier today, I went home with my mother and I explained the opportunity for us with the arts academy and then I went into my bedroom to pack a suitcase. It wasn’t a minute or two later when Mother knocked on the door and came in. She told me that there was something she needed to tell me. And so I asked her what it was and she said that my father is alive!’ Rose’s mouth widened in shock, she was very surprised, she wasn’t expecting Jay to tell her this because she was thinking of her dad too.  ‘Not only is my father alive but he’s living somewhere in England. This really surprised me when Mom told me because we’re going to London to accomplish our dreams. Maybe this is why mother told me after all. The first person I needed to talk with was you, Rose. Who else would know what I’m going through but you. You know what it’s like to lose a father. I know tragically that your daddy died, but I’ve never ever seen mine, so really, what I’m asking of you  now is  some of your advice.’ Rose felt sort of awkward, she was in a position where she couldn’t explain because she was obviously facing  a similar experience as Jay, but Rose’s dad died, that’s the difference. It started to rain heavily and from the distance Jay and Rose could see ripples smack down in the sea from the cliff below, it was a lovely sight but the rain was a little too much for them that they rushed out towards the motor way. They left their most beloved place for the last time ‘The Mountain of Memories’, they called it. They stood under a willow tree that protected them from the rain, it was very close to the walkway of the forest and the motorway beside them. ‘I don’t really want to go home again’, Jay said. ‘You can stay the night at my house if you want.. You could sleep in the guest bedroom, it’s very comfortable for rest there’, Rose said. Jay couldn’t accept Rose’s offer, he thought it was too much of a proposal to accept, he felt it was too much pressure for him. ‘No Rose, I couldn’t possibly do that, you’ve enough worries and grief of your own without  having to put my difficulties on your shoulders. I’ll figure out something another way.’ Rose looked rather worried for Jay, she couldn’t just leave him here in the middle of the night, she cared too much. ‘Well, where are you planning to go? You can’t just wander the streets Jay, not at this time at night.. I’ve a better idea, why don’t we just stay at a near hotel for the night and we can talk more there.’ Jay felt much better, he was satisfied with the suggestion and agreed to book a hotel for the night. Rose and Jay stood under the tree silently for an extra five minutes until the rain finally stopped. As soon as the rain stooped, Rose rushed towards the nearest hotel in town, and Jay followed. As they walked through the streets, they came by drunk people who tried to steal from them, but gladly they ran too fast towards the hotel without noticing the chase behind them that the drunks gave up in exhaustion.

They soon reached their destination- a hotel next to a small gas station near the local town. ‘This is the place…’, Jay asked awkwardly. Rose smiled, ‘Indeed.. This is the place. This is actually where my parents shared their loving memories together, before.. Before my father tragically died.’  ‘Oh, I’m sorry.. We could always find someplace else?’ Rose didn’t want to be anywhere else, she wanted to stay and remember her father because this was his last destination before he tragically died at the cliff. ‘No. I’d rather be here, it makes me feel safe and content whenever I can remember daddy. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere better!’ ‘I guess that’s a better way of seeing things.’ Said Jay.  Rose looked at Jay shockingly when she seen  this slob of a man nodding away to sleep. Jay wasn’t shocked at all, he found it very funny and rather amusing to see  because the volume of the man’s snoring was unbearably loud. ‘Excuse me Sir, Excuse..’ Jay interrupted, ‘No Rose let me… Wake up fool your vehicle’s on fire.’ The mindless man finally raised his head, he looked as if he had no clue what Jay was talking about. He looked as he drank too much alcohol or took an overdose of sleeping tablets and forgot to go to bed. ‘Eh.. I don’t have a vehicle’, said the man finally in a foolish tone. Jay and Rose rolled their eyes in annoyance, it was obvious that the man didn’t get their point. ‘It was only a joke dude’, said Jay. ‘We just said that so that a miracle might happen and finally make you wake up, it was just sarcasm so that shocking might help.’ Rose looked disappointed, Jay’s comment wasn’t the best civil respect shown, but in truth she felt it was true. The man was weak at his occupation as a receptionist in a hotel. ‘What my friend here meant  to say is; would there be any possibility that you might have any rooms available for the night?’ The receptionist looked thrilled, it seemed that he had never been asked such an obvious question. It gave Jay the impression that the hotel was a poor business with lack of support or of management. The man at the reception area then went over to this near counter and took out a bundle of keys and handed one to Rose for the room they were about to sleep in. The receptionist then lazily directed and allocated  both  Jay and Rose on the direction to the room, ‘down that hallway you take a right and then turn left and your there… Now if you don’t mind I’d like to get back to my sleeping… Eh, or my reading of papers.’ ‘Em, thank you, for your help sir, we appreciate it’, said Rose.  They then quickly went down the hallway and took a right and turned left to find the room and with a bit of luck they did, but according to the man’s directions, it wasn’t totally correct. They had to walk down another hallway to find the actual room. Jay was feeling annoyed with the man, he found him pure lazy and disrespectful to be very careless about his job. ‘Don’t you agree that that man was terribly disgusting’, said Jay. ‘Why do you say that’, asked Rose as she and Jay walked down the hallway in a rush. ‘He isn’t very capable of his job. He doesn’t know how to respect guests or communicate  rightly in a business such as a hotel, and he was sleeping on the desk when we arrived… All that gave us the wrong impression of this place completely.’ ‘Well Jay, some people are sadly like that… It’s just a weak trait that they have.. Yes I agree that the man was rude but in a way I don’t care because that’s just the way he chooses to be.’ ‘I guess that’s true Rose, but I don’t see the point in why people want to be that way, haven’t they got a goal or a motivation, or at least a feeling of respect for their community and careless reputation. Don’t you agree that they should set  an example for their own doings of things?’ ‘Yes Jay, of course I do, but either way, what your suggesting is from your point. Yes you can see the brighter sides of things, but in their position their not searching for options or goals like we do. They still haven’t found an interest or an ambition like we have. They’ve given up on themselves and choose to be cowards by not appreciating the opportunities ahead of them, that are right in front of them, if only they’d seek their full potential.’ ‘Wow, what an interesting point and I so agree with you, but I still think that laziness is an easy choice to make, to escape life’s everyday difficulties, which is why it disappoints me the most because they don’t see or yet know that everyone has skills and talents to something or everything. The sad part of it all is that they realize whenever it is too late.’ Rose was relieved when she found the room, the door was stiff so Jay had to bang it open with his full strength. When the door finally  opened, nearly broken off the hinges, Jay and Rose seen a sight that  they so regretted. They walked into the room and found the place to be a mess, a mighty disaster to Jay and Rose’s thoughts. The room was very small, it had only two rooms, one for the bathroom and the other for a bedroom which had two single beds. The mess was truly shocking… The beds weren’t made, there was alcohol bottles and cans of beer all over the place; on the floor, filled on the coffee table, and the smell was obvious to Jay and Rose that alcoholics slept here for before them. The minute Jay and Rose entered the room they cleaned up the mess and put all the bottles and cans into a bin for recycling. Jay opened the window to let air into the stinking place and Rose neatly made the beds to make the place seem a little more clean. In an hour everything was neatly organised and the room looked fresh, and Jay and Rose could finally sit back and rest. After all the cleaning, Jay felt exhausted that he collapsed and fell onto the bed and had a relaxing nap. There was so much on Jay’s mind that he needed this rest. Rose still kept herself busy, she went around the room finding something to do, to keep herself occupied. After a while she sat on her bed and watched the small television that was placed in the room. Jay was having deep thoughts in his sleep as he remembered in the past of what it was like to be growing up without a father. Jay then feared that his father would hate him that he started having a trauma moment, his whole body started shaking and his heart was pounding in worry. Jay woke up screaming, ‘Noooo, he hates me, he hates me, what do I do!’ Rose was next to Jay, trying to calm him down. When Jay opened his eyes and found Rose next to him, he quickly hugged her and tearfully cried out about the nightmare he had about his unknown father.  ‘What’s wrong Jay! Did you have a bad dream. What happened? Please tell me?’ Jay could hardly speak that he was still shaking. ‘I seen him Rose, I seen my father standing before me with such shame and disgust that he wouldn’t talk to me. He looked away from me and told me to get lost. He abandoned me, me-his son. In the dream I seen that he had a new wife and children and wanted to forget me… Rose, what if.. What if this really happens, what do I do?’ Rose started to cry as she had Jay hugging her in his arms, it made her feel very upset because Jay was feeling so lost, innocent and vulnerable that all he wanted was to be accepted as family to his father. ‘Jay listen to me… You do nothing, you hear me? You be who you’ve always being, yourself and don’t ever let anyone, especially your dad come between your new life. Your father should be the one worrying about you, he should be lucky to be even accepted by you! Jay, your so gifted and bright, why let your worries take that away from you? Your father made a huge mistake by leaving you without any contact, but he’s the one who will be sure to know what kind of mistake he made. Parent’s don’t realise how special their children are until it’s too late, so don’t you dare worry about a selfish man who doesn’t deserve to be even classed as a father because to have someone like you as a son should be the greatest gift your dad so lost, over his own selfish reasons to leave you without any regard or return.’ Jay wiped away his lonely tears and felt much better after Rose’s supportive words. ‘Do you really think so?, he asked. ‘Yes… I do.’ Jay gave a brightened smile to show that he felt thankful. ‘Thank you Rose, you’re the bestest friend anyone would be proud of having… Your so reassuring and sensitively understanding that I can’t thank you enough for giving me such angelic support… It means the world to me, it truly does and for that I see you as my family, no doubt!’ Rose laughed with a joyful smile, ‘Jay, it’s no problem. Everything I’ve told you is the honest truth. And I also see you as a brother because you’re so good and deserving to those who know what love and family really is. In my opinion, family is people who love unconditionally and I’ve seen that parent’s don’t always see or understand this meaning or ideal truly. Sometimes, I think family can be anyone who is accepting and who loves you truly and understands the path you walk on and the life your determined to seek or find. Parents or the people who brought us all into the world don’t always necessarily  play a big role in coming to understand us truly, it could be any understanding person. Which is why people like us are bravely  independent and ambitious through what truly matters in life. Think of it this way Jay, your lonely experience without a father made you a more stronger and courageous person as your difficult childhood made you more prepared for any madness and cruelty in this world because you brought your talents to life and your hopeless fears to die as your confidence grew stronger overtime, which is why you’re becoming a beautiful star!’  Jay felt speechless, he instantly hugged Rose the second she stopped talking. Jay’s connection with Rose was unconditional but neither he or Rose realized that. They passed on pure advice to each other without realizing that it was they who had an unconditional friendship. Jay and Rose then both stopped hugging caringly as they just looked at each other in silence as the hotel room grew quiet. Rose hated this silence because she didn’t want Jay thinking too much of personal things, she wanted him thinking and keeping more focused on better topics. Rose looked beneath Jay’s bed and seen his suitcase. ‘Jay, what’s in the suitcase, what did you bring with you, anything interesting?’ Jay looked below and just remembered he had brought belongings with him. He lifted up the suitcase and put it safely on the bed and opened it up. ‘Yeah Rose, I brought many things, especially my memories.’ Rose looked at the suitcase and seen Jay’s most precious necessities. There was tons of clothes, shoes(especially his father’s ones) hygiene equipment for showering or washing, hats, gloves, sunglasses, photographs, letter papers for future writings for his family and friends, diaries for his sharing of life experiences and identity cards and qualification papers for his proof of education information and skill based development that he accomplished through his student years at college. Jay also had scripts on the plays he practised and hoped to perform for the creative arts academy. ‘Jay, I’ve an idea’, Rose took out pieces of the script and thought it would be fun to end the night with a bit of comedy, based on the drama they performed. ‘What kind of idea’, he asked curiously. Rose stood in the centre of the room and acted out greatly as a mimic of her favourite scenes of a romantic play. Rose turned her act into a dance as she twirled round and faced Jay and spoke out merely as if modestly  and asked him if he’d allow her to have this dance. Jay laughed ‘Yes you may’, he said. And so both Jay and Rose done a classical dance as they raced around the room in each other’s arms, laughing with great surprise. The night sure did end with a great laugh and Jay completely forget all about his worries. This was the best way to cheer and entertain a character like him. Rose had that blossomed power to brighten a dead flower and bring it to life. Whenever Jay felt hopeless or dead inside, Rose could come along and bring him back to life. She could make his negative thoughts measure to the fact that life is much better without the misleading differences and choices of other people. Rose made Jay think that her spirit made him feel as if he were the only person who lived in the world, she secretly was his guardian angel!
