There have been very few games that I've felt the need to sit and not get up until I'm finished the entire thing. Those games being; Half-Life, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, Fatal Frame, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and Fable.
I've been a HL fan ever since it came out, and been playing TFC ever since the mod was created. Mass Effect had a good balance of story, RPG elements, and FPS action. Fatal Frame scared me, and has been the only game to do so. I remember playing in in HS with the lights out, by myself. Prince of Persia and Mirror's Edge: I love parkour, and I loved being able to do those types of actions. With ME, I loved that aspect as well as the very different look to it, it felt like art to me.
about mirrors edge. i have never played the game, but a couple weeks ago i had a dream that i was the main character in it...me, not me as the girl. my vision was just like that in the game(i could only see my arms and legs. i was fighting people and trying to get away while they were shooting at me. unfortunately i couldnt see the cool run lines, but nonetheless it was cool. i had this dream based only upon seeing screenshots of it and watching some videos on youtube but have known about it since it was in developement. it really caught my eye because it seems like a really original idea...with the parkour elements and all. so how fluid was being able to use the escape routes in the game and is it easy to get creative and find your own paths or is that part frustrating. i dont really care cuz i am good at allmost any game i touch but i am just curious because i want to know the replayability factor.(also the last statement is not cockiness...that is just not me :) )
I have a favorite video game on each system I own. But mostly I like RPG, Fighting Game, and Shooting Games.

NES - Super Mario Bros, Legend Of Zelda
SNES - Chrono Trigger
Genesis - Mortal Kombat
Playstation - Final Fantasy 7, Twisted Metal 2, Legend Of Dragoon
Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure, Marvel Vs Capcom
Xbox - Halo 2, Fable - The Lost Chapters
Xbox 360 - Fable 2, Gears Of War 2
I like graphic adventures particularly the Monkey Island series.
Very difficult for me to narrow my list of favorite games down to a single fav. I've started games very early, with my earliest memories being with my parents' friends playing Intellivision games as well as seeing stores still selling activision games. Mostly, I'm drawn to Puzzles, RPG's, and Fighters. I'll also stick to a game if it has stuff like create a character or map editor. I will play platformers if they have exploration elements, like Super Metroid, but often I don't bother. Shootemups and similiar I tend to be picky with. My, choice usually comes down to if I like the story, it's music, and whether it's a challenge.

Current games I am addicted to are PC doujin fighter, Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, and Pokemon on DS. I sometimes have Pokemon Battle Revolution setup for random wifi matches. Though, I play other games, those are the most played currently. Biggest reason for those being my current tops is because they can be quite competitive and are very customizable. While I have seen it, it is rare for two players to be the same, which keeps me hooked.
mostly of the ones ive been playing lately are rpg games and a whole lot of other games that's too many to be list in here but here are a few of them.

sega saturn - radiant silvergun
dreamcast - bio hazard:code veronica,border down,ikaruga,psyvariar 2,zero gunner 2,bangai-o,sakura taisen series,
gamecube - resident evil 4
sega genesis - castlevania bloodlines
ps1 - final fantasy series
nes - ninja gaiden series
it wold have to be tho original donkey kong or god of war donkey kong becuas its original and gow because its bloody and gorey
i didnt answer your question though. i play almost every genre of game so it is hard to pick an ultimate favorite game but i will try to list some:
rpg-either final fantasy 7 or 12
fps-goldeneye for n64 because the multiplayer is awesome
fighting-has to be tekken 4
rts-the original command and conquer for ps
dungeon crawler-i like the com game fate(i have never played diablo or that would probably be it)
actually i would have to say thinking about it, that resident evil 2 is my fave game of all time...glad i remembered that one :)
