Well I'll go with the metaphorical version first : Love is a rose with many prickly thorns. It will always hurt you some way, but besides that you'll always be attracted to it, no matter how many times you say you'll give it up.
In reality, love is many things, and not just the sexual kind. There's platonic love (in a friend/family manner), the egotistical/ narcistic love (loving yourself), and lastly unrequited love (the everlasting 'crush' kind) . However, that's just a fraction of what it can be.
