Elfin Lied and Fullmetal Alchemist
During middle school I was introduced to Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z anime by extended 'relatives' but I got tired of the constant [restarts] so I dropped them both. The summer after I graduated from high school I got bored and borrowed a friend's burned copies of Naruto, from there I started reading the manga and it was all "down hill" from there.
Sailor Moon did not get me into anime, it was in fact an anime called The Adventures of Unico, which is about a baby unicorn who was able to make the whole world happy, but the gods didn't like it so they banished him.

Since then I have been into anime, there are various series that I enjoy now, including Shiki, Vampire Princess Miyu, Patlabor, Hellsing, and many more.
I hate admiting it now, but as a kid I had an cartoon crush on the Pharoh from Yu-Gi-Oh. I watched the show all the time, I was such a damn dork. But oddly enough I never played the card games.
Now that an awsome show.
It's better in Japanese.

It was interesting for me.  I would say the very first anime I had a huge interest in was Voltron and Transformers.  When I was a kid, I remember my cousins had one of the Voltron toys as well as some Transformers.  Back then, my interests bounced between Thundercats, He-Man, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Disney stuff.  Those were the only things I was able to watch when I was younger because that's what was on at the time.

Voltron and Transformers caught my interest simply because of the giant robots.  Then the anime of Robotech and Transformers were on, which got me completely hooked.  I didn't get to see Voltron until years later.  Oddly enough, I also watched other anime as well, such as Ronin Warriors, Dragon Ball, and Sailor Moon.  Because I was accustomed to stuff like He-Man and She-Ra, this didn't seam all that new to me.  I didn't even know what anime was back then, outside of giant robots.

After years of enjoying the giant robots, I saw a late night commercial for other anime.  It was interesting to me simply because of what I thought was anime at the time.  Parents had Cable, which at the time had both an international channel and the scifi channel.  I got to watch alot of Japanese anime.  I also saw animations from other countries thanks to the international channel.  Then I saw another one of those anime commercials and was surprised to see some Dragon Ball in it.

I eventually went to checking out what else was Japanese anime, even reading anime magazines that I either baught or my friends had.

While I haven't watched as much animations as I did growing up, I have gotten back into it, when possible.  Currently, I've continued watching Robotech (mostly because of the games), and got into Air Master, Soul Eater, Solty Rei, and History's Stongest Disciple Kenichi.
