I'm eclectic Pagan. I see Diety as a multifaceted creative source that is and all Gods in all aspects of existence. Religion is confining; tries to turn belief into fact which is dangerous as Judeo-Christian religions have shown us. Religion is suppose to be a way to connect to the Divine Source, but each path is different from one pagan to another and from one christian to another.
yaaaaay :)
I'm Pagan, eclectic but mostly focused on Shamanism, Celtic traditions, and a bit of Vedic this and that.

Mysst, I don't think religion HAS to be confining. It all depends on the person who practices it. You don't have to be a sheep to be faithful. ;)
baaa
I couldn't agree more
ok I'll correct myself...Judeo-Christian Religions have become confining by those in Power trying to control the populace. I respect thier core beliefs like the 10 commandments (everyone can benefit from living by those guide lines) but I don't respect the authorities who indicated who the 10 commandments applied to. Example #1 Thou shalt not kill. The Crusades...'you will go to heaven if you kill infidels'...'convert or die'... That's a good enough example to get my point across I think.
yeah they sorta screwed us, didn't they...

dude.... dude!!!!
Religion came about for two reasons:

1) People need to be comforted about death. Thinking that when your dead you're done is too depressing for people. Things like heaven are comforting to people that are dieing because they feel that they will still be able to look over their loved ones. It also comforts the people left behind to think that those people have not really left them.

2) So people could teach other people how to go through life. You'll find that many religions restrict food of some kind... This wasn't just for the heck of it. Middle easterners don't eat pork because of their religion but their religion teaches it bc way back pork had the most aweful diseases. Jewish people are most famous for circumcisions... Before medicines and flat out cleanliness of the average human being was increased, circumcisions really did help men not get infections down there.

I believe religion is outdated in general. It was made by men to easy heartache of death and to teach people that certain things are dangerous. As time went on people abused this power and added certain moralities that do not fit everyone's life and created wars between those people. I believe that people that call themselves agnostics and atheists are just as guilty as the religious. Why label yourself about something that doesn't exists? And if you don't believe in religion there is no god to you so saying that you are agnostic is as bad as asking what happens if Pinocchio says "My nose is going to grow".

I have a very healthy respect for religious people unless they try to push it on me as well. Some people require religion for the first reason I mentioned. I actually have a bigger issue with atheists that call the religious uneducated, stupid, etc... Way to judge people that you get mad at for judging you.
