Universities or Colleges are a shit way to spend your time on. Get a job and read some books in your spare time.

I survived dorm life for 4 years so I'll give you my list:

A good pillow
Blankets/sheets
clock radio
Quarters for the washing machine
bath robe
Two big towels
swimsuit if there is a pool
Formal wear if you want to go to a fancy dance or something
A few good pairs of shoes that are good for walking

What to get when you get there:
Maybe a plastic carrying case (you can find that in the home good area of a store) to carry your shower stuff. I had to go down the hall, but it's also good to keep organized even if you have a private shower. I had my shampoo/conditioner, razor, and face cloth in that and it kept everything together.

BTW, the college bookstores are usually more expensive than elsewhere. So try to buy some of those school supplies at a department store or even a dollar store. You will save some money.

Just pack everything in your room... you will find a use for it later on!
Plus, it will most likely save you money later on unless it gets stolen. You also want to plan accordingly so your dorm room isn't full of junk and you can move around. LOL!!

What you don't pack you will have to spend money on later.

Plus if you pack a lot, you will be cool and portrayed as a strong guy or gurl unless you pack nothing but solid books.
