I have new baby blue tilapia fish that hached out April 27, 2013. Here is my 55 gallon tank. Now I just need more fish nets becasue, I'm using them all. Plus walmart is out of stock and dosen't cary the large one, and next pet store is 30 miles away. Oh, well the joys of having fish. Hope you enjoy the pics.

How long until they're big enough to eat.
Permalink Reply by WaterFish22 on April 29, 2013 at 12:20am Let's see well the first ones I got in October 2012 they are already, like 4 inches long. So maybe another year, before they grow to a size where you could eat them. As far as the babies, I'm guessing it takes about 2 more years to grow them out. If I end up with too many, I will probably end up feeding them to my turtles. Or Sell them to someone else.
Here is one of first ones. (I started with 25 and only one died.) The silver one is a Tilapia the darker one is a cichlid.

You could at least clean the glass before taking a picture....
Permalink Reply by iaininlondon on April 29, 2013 at 6:18pm It's a very invasive fish species, which is causing severe environmental damage in Florida and Texas on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Permalink Reply by WaterFish22 on May 1, 2013 at 2:56pm I don't live in Florida, Texas or on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Where I live it's legal to have them as pets or use them for research. I can't legally sell them or give them away, unless I apply for aquatic license. I also have to have them in a closed loop system, such as an aquarium.
What are their names? Um, I have around 200 fish now so telling them apart is kind of hard. I do name some of my fish though if they have a unique color pattern on them. One of my fish names is White lips becasue it lips are all white.
You could at least clean the glass before taking a picture.... sorry I will try do a better job.
Permalink Reply by WaterFish22 on May 2, 2013 at 2:50am I use Magnum 360 canister filter to remove most of the fish waste. I also try to get most of the fish waste using a gravel vacuum too. I also do weekly water changes. The extra water is pumped to a garden but, this year there is no garden becasue it's still to cold and there is snow on the ground. I also have a test kit to check for nitrates. (Lately, I've been trying to figure out use rain water.)
