How about photo compression and creating a hidden folder?? Not on my Documents or Desktop??
It depends. Are you over 18? Under 18? If you are under 18 and live in his house he has the right to do whatever the heck he wants to do. Do you still have a door to your bedroom? If you do, be thankful. My mom and dad didn't even allow us to have doors to our rooms when I was growing up. Kids today think that privacy is a right and really its a priviledge. Parents can do whatever they want to your stuff whenever they want as long as you live with them and are under 18. If you are over 18, I suggest you move out or sit down and have an adult-adult conversation with him about boundaries. In the end, it's still his house so he still doesn't have to respect your privacy.
i have never had that happen to me but i do feel your pain...we have school laptops..they're macbook airs...and there is no privacy to them
Your dad sound like my dad. When I was in school we were given school lap tops. I hade tons of anime and music on there. My dad try to hack my labtop and I snatch away from him. I still hate him and always will.
Burn all your music on CDs in Data Format (That way you will fit more songs on the CD: I think about 1,000+ depending how long they are) and look into the Control Panel. There is an option where Users can change their password. That way he won't know what it is.
If you want, you can create an account for him so that he would only see his stuff on the computer - but don't give him admin access in case he screws up more stuff.
Or if you have more than one computer at home, set up a network of computers, then map network drive to the second computer where you can store all of your music.
But CDs are better in case he deletes the stuff from the other computer.

Also it's good practice to wipe your computer once in a while, because the Registry gets clogged up like an air filter from an AC so if that was his goal, you should be thankful. But my dad warns me, because he knows my files are important.

Just make sure you can retrieve everything again.

If your dad doesn't know what he deleting and what he is wiping, you need to keep your laptop away from him and explain why your files are important.
generally i'd say yes a parent has the right to do that assuming they bought the computer and the child is a minor. in your case i'd say it's an invasion of privacy and you should talk to him about it.
Yeah but my dad is a but about things like this he think he is right and me as a child is all ways wrong so i hve al ready try to talk and he justblows me off like there is nuthing to do
Why don´t you create a password as Administrator, over your P.C.? Unless you father makes a "Brutal Attack", to you machine to delete you password and get over you operating system, you´ll be safe, and you can change your password over a regular basis.

Cheers
Ever thought of opening up to him and talking andasking why hed do something like that? just a thought?
btw its called recover my files. Buy it learn it use it.
Backup, backup, backup, and don't worry so much about music - either it was pirated (therefore you can download it again) or it was legitimate (therefore you can download it again from the site you purchased the music from). It's a bit of a pain I know but it's really not as bad as losing something like irreplaceable photos.
Limewire is where I get my music from. Not much anymore since I have all that I want for now unless I hear something that I want.
