Is chivalry dead?

It seems things like opening the doors for ladies and stuff to the nature of respect seems to get you a weird look these days. Is it not a good thing to try to be nice these days?

being respectful and chivalrous are totally two different things.

For example, I lift the 50 lb bag of dog food instead of you because I'm stronger. That's respect. you can get your own door. lol

It's also considered to be "respectful" to take off your hat or any head dress while in doors. Do I do that? hell no. this is 2009. lets face it, times change and so do the rules. :-p

yeah my ex wife had daddy issues to. she thought because her dad would literally not allow his wife to ever fill her own car up with gasoline that somehow i inherited this responsibility. which is ludicrous. i mean, don't get me wrong...i do it if i were there, but i wouldn't drive her car down there because she was low on gas to keep her from chipping a nail.

if you can vote and you want to work and take care of yourself, it works both ways...

expecting a man to do something for you is sexist, just like me expecting a woman to make me a sandwich is sexist

so if you want to say a man has certain responsibilities, then yes, but so does the woman

Chivalry isn't dead at all. It's playing possum pretty much. People will eventually learn and start applying it to everyday life. Right now too many people are interested in something else.

Chivarly is not completely dead. There are still guys who do open doors for women, which I think is a nice thing to do.

*rolls eyes* i think most of what you're seeing as chivalry is just sleaze masquerading as respect. Chivalry applies to all women, right? So for a man to be chivalrous, he has to be chivalrous to all women, not just the ones he wants to nail in the stinktube. Forget about you. Does he open the door for your grandmother?

(also i agree with 9. chivalry and equality are mutually exclusive)

I think it's just the way "honor, generosity, and courtesy," are shown that has changed. Although, I do still see and experience door holding if it's not out of the other person's way...
