Chill Pill replied to Dario Western's discussion 'How many Australians are on this site?'These might be the last days we have on here. I'm not sure or anything but I think Bolt might really be closing this time.
I'll try to spend some more time in the chat room if anyone wants to hang out like it was the year 2002 or something.

Permalink Reply by Chill Pill on February 3, 2014 at 12:33pm with the ideas about keeping bolt alive or whatever, i just thought conferenceroom was worth mentioning
conferenceroom looks like an interesting alternative. i am just not sure how you would steer traffic to there.
I have a preference for something more like a bulletin board, but they are not exclusive options

Permalink Reply by Chill Pill on February 8, 2014 at 12:06pm i don't think there's anyone left on here who cares about bolt chat but old chat.bolt.com ran a conferenceroom ircd setup for the custom conferenceroom java client on their site and they had no real services or opers
i don't think there's ever been anything else like it, and if there's anything about bolt worth bringing back it's probably the old chat, not badges or tagbooks
i think it's all still possible but jer's probably the only person who'd understand the point of it all
it's just chat rooms right? maybe it is, it's not 2002 anymore
Is IRCD different than IRC?
I thought lots of people use IRC, though in different forms. They don't program the same as (exactly) they did a dozen years ago.
Permalink Reply by Chill Pill on February 8, 2014 at 11:52pm it's IRC, the IRC daemon is what the server runs, IRCd
people do use irc, not too many anymore, but irc servers all have services and IRCops to keep everything under control
old bolt chat didn't, the freedom was what made it what it was
