dominating on the weekdays
Chivalrous on the weedend
I think I agree with most of the guys when i say ... dominating in the bed and chivalrous in public.... i think the bed part goes back to the cave man days
for me dominating it's all about the pile-drive
A little bit of both. Who would want someone that is too much of one?
Chivalry is a form of domination...
What does it mean to be a gentleman? What does a gentleman *do*?
yeah, i get that. What i'm trying to explore is why it is good for men to show a degree of deference to women that they don't show to each-other, and indeed that women don't show to men. What does that say about the relative status/power of the sexes?
Seems to me that men get the better half of the deal...
we just have to pull out a few chairs, open a few doors, light a few cigarettes, maybe stand up when a woman joins or leaves the table...and in exchange for that we get a global, general assumption that we're more competent, smarter, faster, stronger, and therefore the most logical one to make the decisions...most people don't even notice this until its pointed out, but when a woman speaks, and a man interrupts her, most of the time she stops speaking. almost immediately. When men interrupt men, or women interrupt women, there's a subtle, almost invisible power-struggle, and whoever has least status stops speaking. What happens when a woman interrupts a man? i don't know. It hardly ever happens...
When a man is genuinely chivalrous, he catches the attention of many women. I am not a femi-nazi! I do believe in a certain order to things. I am old fashioned in many ways. I know I won't gain any fans by saying this, but the break down in the family unit started with the liberation of women. Yes, we deserve equal rights. And all that happy horse shit, but the role of the mother, nuturer, and care taker should be cherished. It is latterally equal to that of the hunter, provider, and protector. Just sayin...I am fine with being the weaker sex. I can kick ass when needed, but prefer to be feminine.
*shrug* nobody's forcing anything on anybody. It's about choice. If a woman wants to be a scientist or a lawyer, if a woman doesn't want to have kids, if a woman's stomach churns when she sees men stumbling around like arrogant child-kings, that smug sick-with-victory smirk on their faces as the post-coital sweat dries...I think she should have some options.
If i had a daughter, i wouldn't want anybody to tell he what she cant do because she's a girl. And chivalry underscores the divide. It's not the reason for the sexism itself, just one of the most visible symptoms.
EDIT
And another thing. This idea that in the stone-age women stayed at home or picked fruit and men went out and hunted and invented? I'm pretty sure that's a blatant lie that was invented at some point between the 1900s and the 1950s to explain the sexism of our society as "natural". Each neolithic person did everything. Women hunted, men gathered fruit, men helped raise children. The difference between a mans strength and a woman's strength is a pittance to a mammoth. Whatever sex is hunting it is going to need a massive mechanical advantage. There's no reason to believe a neolithic woman couldn't take care of herself. Even alone. Even pregnant.
It truly is about personal preference. I know we all do, and have always done what it takes to survive. Whether it was yesterday, or a thousand years ago. It's the toilet seat up/ toilet seat down conversation. For me, I like a chivalrous gentleman. I see it as a strength. My boyfriend is chivalrous, as well as many other things.
To Whom it May Concern,

Oooh baby dominate me.

Sincerely,

Me
