i haven't heard from poulsen since he stopped writing for secfocus :o
Permalink Reply by Chill Pill on March 9, 2011 at 9:57am Max Butler. Called himself Iceman (ugh). Consolidated the credit card fraud underground into a single empire. It's what i expected from a technical writer - heavy on exploit descriptions, light on understanding the man. It's alright. Yes, it's new.
Permalink Reply by Chill Pill on March 9, 2011 at 10:11am have you read "@large" that's what i think it was called, probably the best hacker book i've ever read
i really like poulsen btw, he was the man in his day
Never read @large, but i've read some other books of this type. I read one about Mitnick back when he was a huge deal...Mostly i prefer to let these people speak for themselves - every year I download the video-lecture series from the Defcon conference, and the Kaos Computer Club if i'm in the mood for something drier and less entertaining...
also...do you think it's ironic that i pirated that book?
Permalink Reply by Chill Pill on March 9, 2011 at 10:35am i guess that's ironic, was the mitnick book called takedown? i didn't like that one
there's actually a book about poulsen called the watchman, it's pretty weird stuff
i don't know if you care but i just looked up @large, it's by David H. Freedman and Charles C. Mann
yeah, it was takedown. I didn't much like it ether. Still, you have to admire the simplicity of his "hacks" - dress up like a maintanance man, walk into the building with a look in your eyes like you belong, go down to the basement, unplug the server, but it on a trolly and walk out with it. Or my favourite, pull a knife on a guy and tell him you'll stab him if he doesn't tell you his password.
Thanks for the authors, that title is virtually impossible to google for, I'll keep an eye out for it, the review looks pretty good.
Permalink Reply by Chill Pill on March 9, 2011 at 10:43am Does anybody else read Jean Auel? If so, are you super-psyched that she's finally gotten over her latest mental breakdown or returned from the frozen wastes of Siberia where she's been living like a cavewoman or whatever and finally finished the goddamn series? ten years between books? wtf is that?
